It is with great sadness, the family of Gertrude”Gertie” (Mueller) Theriault of Westlock, Alberta formerly of Jarvie, Alberta announces the passing in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 12, 2019 at the age of 95 years.

She is also survived by three sisters, Clara (Bert), Louise, and Heidi; four brothers, Karl (Irma), Oscar, George (Ria), and August (Ruby); one sister-in-law, Hilda. Also survived by many nieces and nephews from the Westlock area, Vancouver area,
Missoula, Montana and Hazelton B.C. ; as well as many neighbors and friends from the Jarvie, Dapp and Westlock areas.
Predeceased by husband William John in 1966; son Norman William in 1989; three sisters- Martha, Ida and Elsie and two brothers, Otto and Walter. As well as her dear friend Annie Kristensen.
Gertie was born in Strathmore, Alberta on February 25, 1924 and at 2 yrs old, her parents Dorothea & Otto Mueller brought her and her siblings to Dapp, Alberta.  She remained pioneering on the family farm until age 19 years when she went to Pibroch, Westlock and Bowden to work during WWII.  At age 21 yrs, she married William John Theriault and moved to the family farm in Jarvie, Alberta. Upon his death in 1966, she continued to farm with the assistance of her sons and advice from her brothers. After giving up milking cows, she became very active in the Jarvie Community using her abundant talents of cooking and organizing numerous events in the Jarvie/Dapp area.  She participated and loved games of Carpet Bowling and Floor Curling around the area- skillful enough to go to the Senior Games in Olds, Alberta.  Her passion with pride and joy was growing flowers and vegetable gardens -enough to feed the whole community. But she was mostly known for the beautiful hand stitched quilts and needle work.  Her family will continue to cherish each quilt they were lucky enough to acquire.  She was also able to travel to see family in such places as P.E.I., Nova Scotia, B.C., Montana, and the Caribbean.  She finally left her farm in 2005 to move to Westlock where she ‘retired’ to enjoy different music events and participate in the “jig-saw “ puzzle gatherings.  She really enjoyed her family and friends and will be greatly missed by all.
A funeral service in memory of Gertie was held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at Westlock United Church. Interment followed at Jarvie Cemetery.
In lieu of flower tributes, donation to the Jarvie Cemetery, c/o D. Budgen, 9916-99 St., Westlock, AB T7P 1Z1 would be greatly appreciated.
