On February 18, 2022, Allan Dennis Bonertz, age 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a six-year journey with prostate cancer.
Allan was born in Pincher Creek, AB and grew up on a ranch near Twin Butte. After high school he attended the University of Alberta and taught Special Education for ten years in Drumheller and Nanton. He then attended seminary and served as an Anglican Priest in Strathmore, Boyle, Westlock, and Morinville. Prior to his death, he was an Honourary Assistant at Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Edmonton. Throughout his ministry, Allan was involved in both the parish and the community. He loved visiting and connecting with people wherever he went, often over coffee.
Allan is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Margaret (nee Austin); his daughter, Jennifer (Doug) Keeling, his son, Cameron (Kim); five grandchildren Alexandra, Emmeline, Malcolm, Carsten and Ava; and brothers Melvin and Raymond (Wendy). He was predeceased by his parents, Wilmer and Olive, and his sister Lynne Schaub and her husband, Denis. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, Priest, and friend.
Deep gratitude is extended to Allan’s treatment team at the Cross Cancer Institute, St. Albert Home Care, Foyer Lacombe Hospice, and to Dr. Wayne Daviduck for their excellent and compassionate care and to his many friends and those that prayed and supported him and his family throughout his cancer journey.
A memorial service will be held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 10037-84 ave, Edmonton on Saturday, March 5, 2022 at 1:30 PM. The in-person service will also be live streamed at facebook.com/holytrinityanglican. Inurnment of ashes with family will be held at a later date in Pincher Creek.
