With deep love and heavy hearts, we share that Alvin Gustave Stedel passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the age of 84.
Alvin was a man whose love radiated outward in every direction. He was a devoted and loving husband to his second wife Gloria and a proud, tender father to his daughter Connie (Curtis) of Calgary AB, his son Bradley (Lois) of Hondo AB, step‑daughter Jeannine (Marcel) and step‑son Bradley of Lloydminster, AB. He was a cherished grandfather to Todd (Mary), Alexander (Siobhan), and Rebecca; a loving step‑grandfather to McKenna (Connor), Karsyn and Kamryn, Brayden (Jasmin), Alexandra, Madison (Dakota); and a delighted great‑grandfather to Madison, Sidney, and most recent addition, Colter. Alvin is also lovingly remembered by his brother Marvin (Beryl), sister in laws Millie, Dorothy, Carol, Patricia, Christine (Randy), brother in law Ernie (Debbie), and countless aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He is reunited in peace with his first wife Eleanor (née Evans), his parents Albert and Elsie (née Medcke), his brother Kenneth, and his sister Lorraine, granddaughter Nicole, mother-in-law Yvonne, father-in-law Edward, brother in laws Dennis, Russel, and Denis.
Born in Fawcett, Alberta, on December 12, 1941, Alvin grew up rooted in the values of farm life—hard work, resilience, and love of family. His journey carried him from those early days on the family farm to Westlock, where he trained as a Journeyman Pipefitter and Tinsmith. There, he met the love of his early life, Eleanor, and together they welcomed Connie and Bradley.
Alvin’s work took his family across western Canada, from Vancouver—where he proudly became the first tradesman to present an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Certificate at the Union Hall—to the far North in Norman Wells working at Imperial Oil’s refinery, to Edmonton, and St. Albert working for B&L Plumbing and Heating, and Calgary, where he ran North Star (Tridel) Plumbing, Heating, and Electrical. He later built E&A Plumbing and Heating in Acme, before returning home to the Jarvie area, where he retired in 2005.
But “retirement” was only a word to Alvin. He never stopped offering his skills, whether installing a furnace, fixing a neighbour’s plumbing, or lending a hand wherever he could. One of his proudest contributions was helping transform the old Jarvie School into one of the region’s finest community centers—a place filled with connection and laughter, just like Alvin’s life.
Alvin lived with a vibrant spirit. For more than 40 years, he played baseball, bowled competitively—reigning as Chinook men’s league champion for several seasons—curled, golfed, and enjoyed floor curling well into his later years. Even after his eyesight declined at age 78, Alvin continued to shine. In 2025, he and his team earned a Senior’s Provincial Championship in floor curling—a triumph that reflected his unwavering determination and zest for life.
He found joy in the simple things: hunting, fishing, evenings around a campfire, spirited card games, and time spent with the family and friends he loved and cherished.
In 2019, Alvin’s life blossomed again when he met Gloria (Johnson). They were happily married in 2025. Together, they discovered new adventures—traveling across Alberta, BC, Saskatchewan, and to Jamaica, Mexico, and the beautiful islands of the Caribbean. Even with limited eyesight, Alvin continued exploring the world by Gloria’s side until the age of 84.
Alvin was a man of honesty, integrity, and boundless humour. His warmth made everyone feel welcome. He was a true friend. Those who knew Alvin will forever remember his optimism, laughter, and joyful approach to life. He was one of the good ones—the kind you carry with you always.
Alvin, GET GOOD HOME.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate doctors and nurses at Westlock Hospital and the University of Alberta Hospital for their exceptional care in his last days.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Jarvie Community Hall on May 2, 2026, where all who loved him are welcome to gather, share stories, and honour a remarkable man.
