It is with great sadness and much love we announce the peaceful passing of Beverley Darlene Atkinson (née Tober) on September 6, 2023. She leaves to mourn one son, Noel (Jackie), one grandchild, Ollie, sister Beatrice, and many beloved relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents Gussie and Andrew Tober, three brothers, Dennis, Lorne and Rene, husband Neil, and brother-in-law Mario Paradis.
Bev was raised in Flatbush and graduated from Fawcett High, then worked in Red Deer where she met Neil, who was in the RCAF. They lived in Alberta and Manitoba until being transferred to Europe in 1968 where they travelled extensively. Upon returning to Canada, Bev and Neil owned a small farm near Winnipeg Beach, MB, where son Noel was raised. Bev then decided to finish her education and attended the University of Winnipeg, graduating at age 40 on the Dean's Honor Roll.
Bev went on to be an executive director and administrator in the charity and civil service sectors, including for UNICEF Manitoba, Associated Manitoba Arts Festivals, and the Town of Snow Lake. She also worked as a senior staffer in several federal and provincial political campaigns. After retirement, she moved to Westlock to spend time with family and friends. Bev loved walking, golf, floor curling, and volunteering at the Seniors Drop-In Centre. She enjoyed visiting and always had a supply of baking on hand in case friends or family stopped by.
Thank you to all the staff at Westlock Healthcare Centre and Continuing Care. The great care and warm smiles from the medical, physio, housekeeping and kitchen staff brightened Bev's days.
At Bev's request there will be no funeral, and she has been laid to rest in Flatbush Cemetery.
