Mr. Jacobus (Jack, Ko) Rottier of Penticton, BC, formerly of Dapp, AB passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, in Golden, BC, at the age of 93. Born on June 23, 1931, in Biezelinge, Zeeland, The Netherlands, he was the second youngest of 10 children.
Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ineke (Ina), his parents, and his nine siblings.
He is survived by his children: Arnold (Debbie) and their children, Nathan (Emily), Daniella, and Mia; Chris (Michelle); Ed (Leahann) and their children, Jake, Markus, Lukus, Willow, and Meadow; Karl (Jane) and their children, Damaris (Kyle), Sarah (Mark), Rebekah, Seth (Regina), Matthew (Joanna), Micah, and Naomi; and Alida (Dave). He also leaves five great-grandchildren: Janella, Tabitha, Oliver, Eleanor, and Brohan; sisters-in-law Elisabeth Rottier and Ann Knottnerus; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Jack immigrated to Canada in 1953 at the age of 21. In 1960, he returned to the Netherlands, where he met and married his beloved Ina. Together, they farmed in both British Columbia and Alberta, raising their family with love and dedication. Over the years, they had five different farms—in Ladysmith, BC; Freedom, AB; two in Dapp, AB; and Oliver, BC—leaving each one better than they found it. After retiring, they settled in Oliver, BC, where they were active members of Valley Congregational Church. In 2021, a year after Ina’s passing, he moved to Athens Retirement Home in Penticton, BC near his daughter’s home.
Jack was known for his passion and hard work as a farmer, as well as his faithful and kind nature. He lovingly cared for Ina during her battle with Parkinson's, demonstrating unwavering devotion. In his retirement, Jack found joy in gardening, traveling, golfing, bowling, and taking daily walks.
Jack was a devoted husband, father, and Opa.
A Memorial Service will be held at Westlock Gospel Chapel at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 2, 2024.
