Jim passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2023, at the age of 86.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughter Dawn (David ); sons: Corey (Adele) and Kyle (Chris); granddaughter Alison; grandson Jorgan (Hailie); great-grandson, Dion; sisters Lorraine and Joyce; brothers: Gary (Joyce), David (Chris), Don (Diane), and Ron (Maureen); sisters-in-law Denise, Helen, and Sandra.
He was predeceased by his parents Alphonse and Annie; brothers: Charlie, Vic, and Paul; brothers-in-law: Leo and Jack; sister-in-law Cheryl.
Jim was born in Saskatchewan on January 18, 1937 and moved to Alberta when he was ten. After completing his education in the Edmonton area, he became a sports writer for the Edmonton Journal. He met his wife, Alice, when he moved to Villeneuve to live with his brother, Charlie, who was teaching there. After a few years with the Journal, he went to university and then began his 31-year teaching career in 1961, the year of their marriage. They raised their three children near Legal and he taught there and in Bon Accord. In 1987, Jim and Alice moved to Sings Winds Ranch near Calahoo.
Soon after his engagement, Jim bought his first horse, followed over the years by many others. Horses were an important part of his life, whether riding, driving, or training. He also enjoyed skiing, canoeing, archery, camping, playing bridge, birding and reading.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Villeneuve, AB. with the Most Reverend Bishop Paul Terrio.
