It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Josef (Joe) Richter of Edmonton, AB on July 17, 2026 at age 69.
He is survived by his children Jennifer Kutcher, Michael Richter (Ashley) and Stephanie Richter, his sister, Brigitte Carroll (Peter Unruh), his father, Ulrich Richter and his grandchildren, Alexis, Samantha, Devlin, Hayden, Mikyla, Lincoln, Malia and Ellie. He was predeceased by his mother, Sofie Richter, in 2022.
Joe was born in Neustadt, Germany on February 11, 1957 and spent the first 17 years of his life growing up on a small dairy farm in the Black Forest. In 1974 his dad packed up the small family and settled in MacDowall, SK to provide a better farming future for Joe. Soon after arriving in Canada a farming accident caused the loss of his leg and redirected his life into pursuing a career as an Industrial Instrumentation Technician. He worked in various positions in the oilfield in Alberta and then landed his dream job in Libya, West Africa. After only 2 shifts in the desert his health started to mysteriously decline and was eventually diagnosed with MS at the age of 30. Through his 50 years of health challenges, Joe stayed positive and faced every hard change and loss with his typical "No Problem" attitude.
He leaves family and many friends from many stages of his life on 2 continents to mourn his passing.
A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on August 29, 2026 at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, MacDowall, SK. Interment will follow at Deer Park Cemetery, MacDowall, SK.
