Patricia Ann Horsley
“Patty” “Patty Cakes” “Nana”
(nee Young)
January 14, 1946-July 4, 2026
It is with great sadness and many, many tears in our eyes that we announce the passing of our dear sweet Mama who was the best…. Mama, Wife, Mother In Law, Nana Airplane, Great Nana, Daughter, Daughter In Law, Sister In Law, Auntie and the bestest friend.
Patty Horsley, of Flatbush AB passed peacefully on July 4, 2026 at the age of 80 years.
Patty was born in Toronto, Ontario and as a young child moved to Peebles, Saskatchewan. Later the family had moved to Saskatoon, where she met the love of her life, Allan. Mom and Dad eventually moved to Sherwood Park, Alberta and then settled in Leduc, Alberta. Mom worked at the Leduc Legion Branch #108 for 25+ years and Dad, a painter by trade, was a very busy fella. They raised us 3 with love and we all learned a lot from them both, everyone that walked through our door was loved, no matter who you were. Us 3 have very fond memories of our childhood and all the memories made after throughout the years…
They decided to leave Leduc and move on out to Flatbush in 2013. They loved it, Dad especially since he finally got to cut grass on a ride em’ mower. After Dad passed in 2015 Mama stayed at their home up until the day she couldn’t….she called it her “little patch of heaven on earth” and she loved it.
Our beloved Mama / Nana’s memory will forever be cherished by…
Daughter: Kathy (Wade), Daughter In Law: Tarra, Son: Tim (Laura), Grandchildren: Taylor, Dominick (Brooke), Corbin, Ty (Shyanne), Leah, Parker, Travis, Adele, Chad, Violet and Great Grandson Benjamin.
Sister In Law: Connie, Brother’s In Law: Jerry (Lynn) and Craig.
Many nieces and nephews,
Her In Laws: Rick “Hey Grouch” and Judy that were her best friends, Leduc Legion besties, close friends, neighbours and her beloved companion cat: Bad Kitty. She is the best Kitty and has been taken in by Glenn, Andrea and Sully, thank you friends for taking her. Mom is so thankful, and so are we. You all definitely have a special bond
Mama was predeceased by….
Her loving husband of 46 years: Allan, Beloved Eldest Son: Chris, Parents: Walter and Bernice Young, Brother’s: Archibald and Ronald, Brother In Law: Stuart, Sister In Laws: Flo and Marilyn.
Also her beautiful cat: Pickles.
The Family would like to express their heartfelt and sincere gratitude to Dr. Do Rego and the ladies at the Associate Medical Clinic for their years of kindness, support and care of our Mama / Nana Patty, making sure she was looked after.
We would also like to extend a special Thank You to the Emergency Department Staff, East Wing Staff and the Palliative Care Team at the Westlock Healthcare Centre for everything that was done for our Mama / Nana Patty. The care, compassion and comfort you all showed to her and to us was wonderful, amazing and a blessing.
Mama had quite a few challenges over the last decade, but persevered through them all like the strong tough cookie she is…..
When Mama and us got the diagnosis that her cancer had spread throughout her lungs, lymph nodes and liver and that it was stage 4 she said right off the hop….
“I’ve had a good life.”
And to all that knew her and loved her, She truly did….
She was our constant, our light on a grey foggy day. There was never any judgement only love, but there was always the “worry wart” in her that she took over from Dad…. She would do whatever it would take to make things better for whomever….
You are loved and missed so much Mama/Nana and by so many…. Your big heart, fierce love, infectious energy, courage, strength, wicked sense of humour, unforgettable laughter and the best baked macaroni maker in the world. Also, you always had a good laugh when the goat you left out got……got.
You will be Forever in our hearts.
We were all lucky and blessed enough to be able to have the conversations of love and wishes and life and everything in between… there were a lot of visitors, tears, giggles, jokes, love, hand holding, memories shared and music played that were sang along to… we were all able to say goodbye in our own ways…and so did she, this is something that will always be cherished
Love, family, music and friends was her motto. Her last words were..
“ I love you all.”
She truly did and will continue to do so from above.
A Celebration of Life will be held at our farm near Flatbush on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at 3:00 pm. Her ashes will be spread at our memorial tree with Dad and Chris as she wished.
More details to follow in August.
