The official obituary of

Brydon James Rand

August 4, 1963 — October 6, 2026

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the loss of Brydon James Rand at the age of 63. Brydon passed away peacefully after a tough battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Marylynne Williamson and George Rand, and his stepfather, Noel Williamson.

He will be lovingly remembered by Sandy, the love of his life for 34 years, and his children, Dayna and Dillon. He will also be missed by his siblings, Marlene (Darryl), Shayne, Marcey (Penny) and Stacey, as well as all who knew and loved him.

Brydon was born in Brampton, Ontario, and grew up in Calgary, where he had what he described as an, “awesome childhood.” His first job was as a young ranch hand, and he had an enduring love of country life. He later worked in seismic exploration before joining the union with his dad. Pipelining flowed in his veins.

Brydon was a hardworking man, and there wasn't a union job he didn't try to sign on with. He was a member of the United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 488 for 35 years and the Labourers' International Union of North America Local 92 and 1611 for 25 years. He was one of many who helped build this province and this country. He serviced major projects across British Columbia, Alberta and Manitoba. Brydon was there from kickoff until the yard was empty on the Trans Mountain Expansion Project, and he was dreaming of the next job right to the end. He was "all grit and no quit."

Brydon had a fun-loving, spontaneous side and made friends everywhere he went. This included many Teamsters friends and his Union brothers and sisters. Brydon had a passion for riding from a very young age. His first vehicle was a Suzuki Trailstreet 100; his last was a special edition Harley-Davidson. The man was born to ride!

His heart was always at his home of 34 years near Clyde, AB. It was here; Brydon and Sandy found peace in acreage life, raised their beautiful children, and created countless memories together. Although work took him from the mountains to the prairie fields and many places in between, his greatest motivation was always the family waiting for him at home. Brydon loved his family deeply, and everything he worked for came back to Sandy, Dayna, and Dillon.

Brydon and Sandy also shared a mutual love for Bullmastiffs. Brydon often shared his bed or the couch with their large, furry bullies who gladly accepted the offer to be close to Brydon.

We would like to thank all of Brydon’s doctors, nurses, Palliative Home Care and the Westlock Healthcare Centre for the care given to Brydon, Sandy and his family throughout his illness.

To honour Brydon’s wishes, there will be no service at this time.

Anyone who wishes may make a memorial donation directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation (Cross Cancer Institute), 11560 University Ave. NW, Edmonton, AB T6G 1Z2
