OLSEN, Flemming Milton
August 4, 1930 - February 18, 2016
With much sadness, we announce that Flemming Olsen, of St. Albert, Alberta has passed away. He was 85 years old. As was his wish, he died in his own home, in the loving care of his family; most importantly, in the care of his wife and life partner of more than 60 years, Nina Olsen. Flemming succumbed to Lymphoma, which had recurred after a period of remission.
Flemming is survived by his three children: Steve (Dianne Elgie) of Markham, Ontario; Lena (Scott Thatcher) of Sturgeon County, Alberta; and Terry (Jill Cunningham) of St. Albert, Alberta. He is survived by his eight grandchildren; Eric, Sara, Brent, Nicholas, Rebecca, Ella, Halle and Chloe. Flemming is predeceased by his parents Niels and Malena Olsen, and by his brother, Bent Olsen, of Hobro, Denmark.
He is also survived by a multi-generational network of family and friends back in Denmark and here in Canada. Flemming and Nina immigrated from Denmark in 1957. Flemming spent his career as a Pipefitter on countless construction projects across Alberta as a proud member of UA Local 488.
On Wednesday, February 24th, at 2:00 pm a Celebration of Flemming's Life will take place in the Nordic Room, at the Dutch Canadian Club of Edmonton, 13312-142nd St. Edmonton, Alberta. In lieu of flowers, it was Flemming's wish that donations be made to the Cross Cancer Institute.
